What happens in a session?

Usually, I explain to you how Havening works and we talk about what you would like to work on. As Havening works with the sensory input of a trauma, we can but don’t have to talk about a specific memory.

This can be very important to people who for example have experienced sexual abuse or have done exposure therapy and don’t want to repeat the situation again.

In a case like this I will ask questions and your brain will come up with a sensory impression of what has happened, like a shape, colour, or smell. No need to worry, your brain will just come up with answers by itself.

The important part is you briefly connect with the trauma or in other words you are triggered. We than go straight to the Havening movements and to distract your thinking brain we play games, so the deeper parts of the brain can work in the background to remove or de-potentiate the emotional part of the trauma.

The Havening movements involve simple touch to the hands, upper arms, and the face. You can do the movements yourself or I can do them for you. It is your choice.

The games could be counting from 0-20, or going alphabet shopping, you imagine a big shopping trolley and you put things in from A-Z, or you tell me all about your favourite dish, we go on imaginary travels, or construct something.

The games are not about fulfilling a task, it is about distracting you. It is light hearted and fun. You soon will feel relaxed and find yourself laughing.

Our aim is you aren’t frozen in time any longer, find a different perspective and heal.
